Self-realization and openness

To study the Way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened
by all things.
To be enlightened by all
things is to remove the
barriers between one’s self
and others.
(Dōgen, taken from Deep Ecology, pg, 11)

  1. The path to self-realization relies on full acceptance and openness off all that is encountered...essentially an open mind that is open ended.

  2. While this quote is by Dōgen, self-realization is a central concept in many eastern religions, as well as heavily relied upon in the philosophies of Gandhi and Næss.
